Spiritual Name, Meaning & Tradition       _cc781905- 5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_

It is a tradition in Kundalini Yoga to take a spiritual name when one is ready - so Yogi Bhajan gave a spiritual name to everyone who asked him for one. He said: "everyone deserves an opportunity for change."

What is a Spiritual Name?

A spiritual name expresses soul identity in the Kundalini Yoga tradition, as it invites the sincere practitioner of Kundalini Yoga to develop their highest consciousness and helps them to strive for their perfect destiny.

Thus the spiritual name with its vibration and frequency is a tool that helps to raise one's energy through the power of the Nadh* (essence of all inner sounds/inner sound) and through the divine expression within.

Yogi Bhajan said: “…when someone asks for a spiritual name, that name ultimately describes that person's destiny. “Deciding to take on a spiritual name is a step beyond old patterns and connecting with the limitless self.

Your spiritual name is your intended life path, your heavenly identity. That's all you are You may live by it or not, but it is the power that guides you. And it's a prayer. When someone calls me "Yogiji", it means "one who is united with his higher soul self". When someone calls me "Bhaja" it means "sacred sound". And when someone calls me "Harbhajan Singh" it means "the lion who sings the divine song". It is a prayer from the world beyond. What is a prayer? It's a reputation. And you answer that call. you will be raised It's an addition. It's a way of receiving blessings from people.

– Yogi Bhajan

"

Nirinjan Kaur, Yogi Bhajan's chosen successor as namesake of spiritual names, was taught by him to learn the method of selection for over thirty years.

I received the spiritual name from Nirinjan Kaur according to this tradition:

to the meaning:

DASS – Servant of the Creator with great love and devotion...

PAVAN - ...as a pure, sacred bearer of PRANA, the life energy

KAUR - Yogi Bhajan gave the name Singh as the second part of every spiritual name to men and the name Kaur as the second part to women. Kaur means “princess or lioness of god” and Singh means “the lion of god”.

The names Kaur and Singh express nobility, grace, strength, courage and confident living.

She, the princess/lioness, who serves the Creator with great love because she carries the life energy with impeccable purity.

When I received my name, a real name initiation took place within a few days -

I have moved the name within me countless times, sung it, thought it, written it, penetrated it

... I love and honor this name, full of joy and respect for my associated life task: to serve creation with devotion and love through my yogic work and being - and to pass on life energy in all possible ways and ways.
